PARKING: The City of The Village has numerous ordinances that regulate parking in
residential areas of the city. Some of the key provisions are listed below:
- No truck or van in excess of one-half (1/2) ton capacity may be parked on any street
or highway within the city between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.
- All vehicles which may properly parked on the streets or highways of the city must
be moved at least once every twenty-four (24) hours.
- Trailers, boats, motor homes, recreational vehicles, and other similar type vehicles
may not be parked on residential streets, with the exception of a one hour period
for the purpose of loading and unloading. (A special temporary parking permit may
be secured from the city for motor homes and recreational vehicles by contacting
Code Enforcement at 751-0493)
- Backhoes and other similar construction equipment may not be parked on residential
streets except during actual construction periods.
- Vehicles must be parked in the direction of travel of the street. (to do otherwise
requires the driver to drive the vehicle left of center into opposing traffic and,
therefore, creates a hazardous situation.)
- Vehicles may not be parked on any unpaved surface of the front yard. Gravel is not
considered a paved surface.
- Parking on any unpaved portion of the street right-of-way is prohibited. (Utility
vehicles and other vehicles engaged in construction vehicles are exempt from this
requirement while engaged in necessary work.)
- Parking of more than one vehicle, boat, trailer, van, etc., in the rear or side yard
of any residential property is prohibited. If more than one vehicle is to be parked
in the rear or side yard, the resident must provide a minimum of a six-foot high
sightproof fence so that the vehicles are not visible from outside of the premises.
- RV's parked in driveways cannot encroach on the street right-of-way. The distance
from the street curb to the edge of the right-of-way varies depending on the actual
width of the street in front of your home. In most cases, however, the right-of-way
ends approximately 12 feet back from the curb.
Inoperable, dismantled, wrecked, or junk vehicles may not be kept or stored on the
street or on any property except inside of an enclosed garage or structure where
it is completely concealed from public view. A SPECIAL VEHICLE RESTORATION PERMIT
CAN BE OBTAINED AT CITY HALL.
